The Durability of 316L Stainless SteelAnd Resistant to Corrosion

Oct.09.2024

The performance of materials that can withstand wear and tear as well as corrosion is where 316L stainless steel takes the trophy home. This grade of stainless steel is popular in many arenas and industries since it has many outstanding properties, making it a useful resource for applications that require strength and durability.

316L is a lower carbon version of the 316 stainless steel. The letter ‘L’ stands for ‘low carbon’ and its primary function is to minimize the carbide precipitation during welding, thus decreasing intergranular corrosion. This means 316L is particularly favorable for very harsh environments where the presence of corrosive materials is common.

The intergranular corrosion is one of the reasons why 316L stainless steel has superior corrosion resistance. By virtue of its formulation includes a higher percentage of nickel and molybdenum than the other grades of stainless steel. Nickel increases the overall strength and toughness of the material, while Molybdenum increases the resistance against pitting and crevice corrosion, particularly in chloride environments.

The strength of 316L stainless steel is also in its mechanical properties. It has a high tensile strength and ductility which enables it to be very load-bearing without breaking or deforming. For this reason, the use of this material is common for structural elements such as for bridges, for buildings, and for marine constructions.

KIRMARE INOX is quite confident in providing a wide range of 316L stainless steel products to meet different industry needs. We focus on production of decorative rectangular pipes, oval pipes, and round tubing which meet high quality and performance parameters. If these pipes are intended for architectural projects or if the tubes are required for construction purposes, the 316L stainless steel products are sure to perform well thanks to their strength and anticorrosive protection.

The qualities of strength and the ability to withstand corrosion allow using 316L stainless steel in difficult areas of any application. KIRMARE INOX wants to ensure that its customers are always satisfied with the products they purchase.
